Your Baby is the Size of a Banana

Week 20

Banana

Length

16.5 cm / 6.5 in

Weight

300 g / 10.6 oz

You are halfway through your pregnancy — your baby is now measured from head to toe rather than just crown to rump.

Development at Week 20

At 20 weeks, your baby is swallowing regularly and the digestive system is producing meconium, the dark substance that will be your baby's first bowel movement. The skin is thickening and developing distinct layers. Your baby now has a regular sleep and wake cycle and may respond to familiar sounds with increased movement.

Next week

At week 21, your baby will be the size of a Carrot.
