About tracking weight in pregnancy

Why a trend beats a number

Weight in pregnancy moves for many reasons that have nothing to do with what you ate: fluid, time of day, what you are wearing, where you are in your cycle of swelling. A single reading says very little. A line over several weeks says considerably more, which is why Hamila shows your entries as a trend rather than a verdict.
Healthy ranges vary with your starting weight, your build, whether you are carrying more than one baby, and your own medical history. There is no universal target, and a number that is right for one mother is not a goal for another.

How to keep the record consistent

If you weigh yourself, do it the same way each time — same scales, roughly the same time of day, similar clothing. Weekly is plenty; daily readings mostly capture noise and can make an ordinary pregnancy feel alarming.
You are also free not to weigh yourself at all. Many maternity teams do not routinely weigh after booking, and if tracking makes you anxious or is difficult given a history with food or your body, leaving this log empty is a perfectly reasonable choice. Hamila will not prompt you about it.

What to raise with your team

Sudden weight gain, particularly with swelling in your face or hands, a headache, or changes in your vision, should be reported the same day — those can be signs of pre-eclampsia. Weight loss beyond early pregnancy, or being unable to keep food down, is also worth a call rather than a wait.
Hamila records what you enter and does not interpret it. It is not a medical device and does not replace your midwife, doctor or maternity unit. If you are worried about your baby or your own health at any point, contact your maternity team straight away — day or night, and however many times you need to.
