Baby development

Eyelashes, eyebrows, and early scalp hair begin to appear.
Thin skin still shows the blood vessels beneath it.
The fetus moves its limbs and practices sucking, swallowing, and breathing motions.

Your body

Headaches, dizziness, heartburn, nosebleeds, or swollen gums may occur.
Stretching ligaments can cause discomfort along the lower sides of the belly.
Many people feel better than they did in the first trimester.

This week's checklist

Confirm the timing of your anatomy scan and any other recommended screening.
Choose supportive, comfortable shoes.
Keep dental care and hydration on your routine list.

Call your care team

Call for bleeding, fluid leakage, fever, persistent headache, or unusual swelling.
Seek urgent help for severe headache with vision changes, chest pain, fainting, trouble breathing, or severe abdominal pain.

Medical information, not medical advice

Every pregnancy is different. Use this guide for general education and follow the advice of your own maternity care team. Do not delay urgent care because of something you read here.
