Surah Ya-Sin During Pregnancy — The Heart of the Quran

Surah Ya-Sin During Pregnancy — The Heart of the Quran

سُورَةُ يس
The Prophet ﷺ called Ya-Sin the heart of the Quran (Tirmidhi 2887). Its verses move through creation, resurrection, and Allah's power to bring life from what seems lifeless — "His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it: Be, and it is" (36:82).
For a mother in her second trimester, feeling the first movements of a life being created within her, Ya-Sin reads differently than at any other time. Its themes of life given, sustained, and returned make it a surah of profound reassurance during pregnancy.

Surah Ya-Sin 36:82 — the verse of "Be, and it is"

إِنَّمَا أَمْرُهُ إِذَا أَرَادَ شَيْئًا أَن يَقُولَ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ
Innama amruhu idha arada shay'an an yaqula lahu kun fayakun
His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it: "Be," and it is.

When to Recite It

A common routine is reciting Ya-Sin once a week — many choose Friday mornings — through the second trimester. Its 83 short verses take about fifteen minutes with measured recitation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Surah Ya-Sin called the heart of the Quran?

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Everything has a heart, and the heart of the Quran is Ya-Sin" (Tirmidhi 2887). Scholars explain that it concentrates the Quran's core themes — tawhid, prophethood, and resurrection — in one chapter, the way the heart concentrates the body's life.
